The importance of getting out of your comfort zone.

While comfort zones are safe and important, they don’t need to hem us into a life that feels suffocating, unfulfilling, or worse, terrifying. Pushing at our comfort zone, helps us accumulate experiences and broaden our sense of personal resources.

Getting out of your comfort zone allows you to experience moments that help you learn and grow. When you try, when you show up, when you achieve something you didn’t think was possible, these are the moments that keep you moving forward in faith, not in fear.

Challenging yourself, is not about engaging an activity that harms you, or puts you in harm’s way. Nor are they situations that are demeaning or threatening. It is about doing something that inspires you, something that speaks to your inner knowing. It is an activity or situation that allows you to break free from smallness, and find your light. They are experiences rich in emotional data, the type of data that energises and enables you. You learn that even though there is uncertainty, there is also opportunity, and potential to be found.

New experiences allow you to see yourself and things differently, expanding your skills and self knowledge. And with this, you develop your understanding, your confidence and self-efficacy. You learn that you are capable, flexible and courageous.

The beauty of your story is that you are in it, taking brave steps, seeking your path and opening yourself to learning.

Rather than demolishing all boundaries and all things that make you feel safe and comfortable, you are better able to define your boundaries. Being decisive about what is okay, and what isn’t okay is an important step in trusting yourself and in trusting others.

When you push against fear, and do something important to you, you act in aspiration, and trust. You see what you can do, rather than being fixed in what you can’t do. This helps with your psychological wellbeing. When you are able to balance safe and comfortable, with courage and daring, it builds your resilience and helps you to thrive.
